a) Creating a Page - You need a good idea for a page which people will want to read i.e. music, internet realted etc., something people will want to search for, but not too large a topic that there are many competing sites. Net Info. cannot help you too much here.... use your imagination... Net Info. is based on giving tips and links for FREE Internet Related Stuff and has some music sites. Be creative... and have fun!

This page is hosted on onestop.net, this is an excellent site as you can just FTP you page here and it is set up and ready to use, however they are not accepting any new members at the moment. Also, you are allowed to advertise on the site and earn money which the others do not allow.

Another favourite of mine is Angelfire, they give you 5Mb of FREE Webspace and have very few restrictions, you can also control the pop up window which promotes their advertisers and even turn it off. Making the web page is also easy as there are online editors you can use.

Geocities, Tripod and others offer lots of FREE Webspace and I have used these. They have great online editors, however you cannot control the advertisers pop up windows and these can be annoying. But they are worth looking into.

b) Promote your Page for FREE and get Traffic - So you have got a web page... Well how about some traffic!

  1. Use banner exchanges - Link exchange is a good one... I have used this for ages, however not many people click though my banner placed on other peoples sites to visit this one. They provide excellent statistics for your site though and they are well worth joining just for this. Other banner exchanges are powerbanner, bannerswap and banner exchange, again I do not get many click-thrus from them. I don't think this is the best way to promote a site... but is worth a try... they are FREE!
  2. Register with search engines.... Do this so when people search for your topic on the search engine your site comes up... The popular ones are yahoo, altavista, excite etc. etc. etc. You can use FREE submition engines, goto linkbuddies (www.linkbuddies.com) they have a good list under promotion.
  3. Send the information for you site to FREE for all links... This is good and gets visitors but is temporary, but it does make you feel good, goto yahoo and search for 'free links' and send your site details to them.
  4. Ask people with similar web sites to link to you... an excellent way to build up reliable traffic
  5. Goto newsgroups about your topic and let them know about your site... but please don't annoy anyone.
You will need a counter to monitor you stats., most FREE homepage providers will give you one, or you can use Fastcounter (www.fastcounter.com) from Linkexchange, this is good and gives excellent stats.
